New book is the author’s compelling true story of her personal struggles and overcoming depression
For those who are undergoing challenges mentally, emotionally and physically, author Kai J Lilac has something heart-rending to share in her new book, My Past Story. She hopes that this book will help, support and inspire everyone who is struggling with depression. With her story, she encourages them to keep on fighting knowing that they are survivors, loved, worthy, and much stronger than they believe or think they are.
Depression is being discussed or talked about everywhere. But oftentimes, people are afraid to share if they are the ones undergoing this illness. In this book, the author courageously shares her personal story of how she went through it. She recalls being in and out of the hospital since she was young and it made her become insecure. Her flaws were pointed out and picked on. Her brother called her names and made her feel ashamed. Her mom brought up her weight and made her feel hateful. Running away doesn’t help but makes things more complicated. Her best friend moved away and made her feel more alone. Her hope is that people would read her story and know that they are strong and not alone in their sufferings.
Her story starts when she was a baby. She was born with a hole in her heart and had an open heart surgery a year later. At four years old, she was diagnosed with epilepsy. She was stuck in the hospital for a month because the doctors didn’t know what was causing her to have seizures and didn’t know a way to stop them. She was induced into a coma for 5 days. In the middle of grade six, she started to become insecure about her weight and her scars. Her insecurity about the physical scars took a toll on her. The were three of them: getting bit by a dog on her lip, hitting the side of her head on a trampoline, and hitting her chin on an old metal merry-go-round. She would look in the mirror, see the scars, and turn away because she hated them. And this became one reason why she went through depression.
Many readers would definitely relate to the author’s journey. She hopes they will also find the strength to overcome it, just like how she did it because she believes that everyone is an “overcomer”.
This book is available online and can be purchased at online bookstores: Writers Republic, Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
